MeritTap / How it works

How MeritTap works

Each card and stand has an NFC chip and a QR code that both point to a short MeritTap link. You decide where that link goes: your Google review form, or any page you like.

Setting up a new card

  1. Tap or scan it with your own phone. A brand-new card opens the MeritTap setup page.
  2. Enter the activation code that came with the card (8 characters, like ABCD-EFGH). This proves the card is yours.
  3. Find your business. Start typing its name and pick it from the list. If it doesn’t show up, paste your Google review link instead. You can get it free with our review link generator.
  4. Add your email. We send you a link to manage your cards. There’s no password to remember.

That’s it. The next tap or scan opens your Google review form.

Where to tap on each phone

  • iPhone: hold the top edge of the phone (near the camera) flat against the card for a second. The phone needs to be unlocked. Recent iPhones read NFC without opening any app.
  • Android: hold the middle of the back of the phone against the card. NFC must be on (Settings → Connected devices or Connections → NFC). It is on by default on most phones.
  • Phone cases: thick, metal or wallet-style cases can block NFC. Try without the case, or scan the QR code.
  • Any phone: open the camera and point it at the QR code on the card.

Changing where a card points

Go to merittap.com/manage, enter the email you used at setup, and open the sign-in link we send. From there you can point any card at a different business or link, label cards (“front counter,” “truck 2”), and see how many taps each one gets.

What customers see

A tap goes straight to your Google review form, with no MeritTap page in between. Google asks the customer to sign in to their Google account if they aren’t already, as it does for every review.
