MeritTap / FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How does a Google review card work?
Each MeritTap card has an NFC chip and a printed QR code. A customer taps the card with their phone (or scans the code with the camera) and your Google review form opens. No app is needed.
Does it work with iPhone and Android?
Yes. Recent iPhones and most Android phones read NFC without an app; on Android, NFC has to be switched on in settings, which it usually is. Any phone can scan the QR code on the card instead.
Where do customers tap?
On iPhone, near the top edge of the phone. On most Android phones, the middle of the back. Thick or metal phone cases can block NFC; the QR code always works.
How does the 90-day guarantee work?
Use it for 90 days. If your Google review count hasn’t gone up, we refund your order. All we ask is that your card or stand was set up. Call or email us and we’ll check your public Google review count.
How much do they cost?
One card or stand is $30. The price per piece drops as you buy more, down to $15 a card and $15 a stand. Packs make it easy to put one at every register and give a few to staff.
When am I charged?
When you check out, through Meritly’s secure Shopify checkout.
How do I set it up?
Tap or scan the card yourself. The setup page opens: enter the activation code that came with it, search for your business, and add your email. It takes about a minute.
Can someone else claim my card before I set it up?
Not without the activation code that ships with your card. After setup, only you can change it, by signing in with the email you used.
Can I change where the card points later?
Yes. Sign in at merittap.com/manage with your email and point any card at a different business or link. The card itself never needs reprogramming.
Does it go straight to the review form?
Yes. A tap goes straight to your business’s Google review form, with no MeritTap page in between. The customer needs to be signed in to a Google account to post, as with any Google review.
Does Google allow review cards?
Asking customers for reviews is allowed. What Google prohibits is offering incentives, asking only happy customers, pressuring people, or telling staff to hit review quotas. Offer the card to every customer and let them decide. Read the rules.
